A Walk Through Nature

Before the holiday break, our 8th levels had a chance to go back and look at the work they put in at Latta Plantation during a stream rejuvenation project. Here is just a glimpse into the magic that transpires when a child slows down, and steps out into nature...

Compost For Sale!

Last year we began an adventure into vermicomposting. Which, for those of you that don't know what that is, it's composting with worms! How exciting is that?! Through a wonderful parent donation, we have a Worm Factory in the back of our classroom which provides an environment for the worms to safely go about their lives, as well as allow for us to compost in our community.

The end result of this Worm Factory is an easy way to harvest both the worms if we needed to (they triple in quantity every three months!), as well collect freshly composted soil. We are proud to say that for the first time ever in Countryside Montessori history, we have our very own compost for sale!

While it's not much at the moment, it's at least the start of a grand and amazing endeavor. Below is a picture of the size containers we have. They are 6oz jars, filled with fresh, Montessori compost created by over 3,000 worms and our students fresh fruit and veggie compost!

There are only 4, so they will surely go fast, but Middle School will have these on sale for $5.00 each to the first takers :)
