Latta Plantation: A Day of Relaxation

Before our 8th levels headed out on their holiday break, we took a trip back to Latta Plantation to look at the final results of their hard work during a stream rejuvenation project. Here is just a few glances into this day...

Sustainable Life

Nothing comes easy, especially when it comes to growing produce in a garden. With little time lately to spend in our garden, other than maintenance of the seeds planted, we are happy to say that there is life sprouting.
For everyone to see, and appreciate, here is a picture of the lettuce and kale that we picked yesterday from our garden. Presentation is everything in food, so I took the produce home to dress it up and taste (figured it would be best if I end up with something rather than the kids ha).
I'm happy to say that this is just the start and we look forward to January when we can get out in our gardens, harvest some compost, and share our wealth with others.

Working With Our Hands

Our 8th Level students have begun to reach out to the community around us and put their hands to work in the Earth. For three days they participated in a stream rejuvenation project at Latta Plantation. They are ready to work in the gardens at Middle School once the season gets warmer. We could not be more proud of all their hard work!

Welcome to Erdkinder!

The term "Erdkinder" is something that those fully engrossed in a Montessori philosophy are aware of. For those that are not, however, this term is not as familiar. The word Erdkinder means "children of the Earth."

This allows for students that are part of a school that has an Erdkinder program to have the ability to learn valuable, hands on skills, so that they may further develop their practical life skills. Here at Countryside Montessori School, in Charlotte, NC, we have the start of an Erdkinder program.

Each day this program grows more and more, and with that so does the students education. On this site you will see what goes on in our gardens here at the Middle School level, as well as what conversations are had across all our campuses.

You will also be up to date on produce and garden items that go on sale as the seasons change. We thank you for stopping by here, and we look forward to growing with you...
